Apart from the metro service available across the country, Qatar also has three tram services currently located at Msheireb, Lusail and Education city. This service makes it very convenient for people to move around places where the metro isn’t accessible. The tram vehicles that run on electricity are air-conditioned and have special glass panels that filter light. Buses struggle in heavy traffic, but trams do better. They are also significantly more efficient in terms of road usage as one train replaces around 40 cars which take up a far larger area of road space.

Downtown Msheireb Tram

The flagship development project of Msheireb Properties, a division of the Qatar Foundation, is Msheireb Downtown Doha (MDD), which is situated in the center of Doha. The former commercial district has been effectively revitalized by the real estate development corporation, making it the new center for business, recreation, and habitation in Qatar.

Additionally, traveling is now simpler for both residents and visitors in Qatar thanks to recent improvements to the country's public transit system. To learn everything there is to know about the Tram and Msheireb Downtown Doha, scroll down!

Education City Tram

In 2019, Qatar Foundation (QF) unveiled its own electrically-powered tram system that circles the "Academic Loop" of QF. It provides car-free, park-and-ride links to schools, universities, centers, and other facilities at QF thanks to its 24 stations.

The Education City Tram covers a total of 3 lines:

  • Line 1: Yellow
  • Line 2: Blue (Academic Loop)
  • Line 3: Green

The Yellow and Blue lines are now in use. The tram allows car-free, park-and-ride links between the centers, schools, and other institutions run by Qatar Foundation.

Important things to note:

  • After boarding the tram, passengers must provide their "Green" EHTERAZ status to the security personnel.
  • Wheelchairs may ride the trams, however pushchairs, carrycots, or folding bicycles must be secured with a safety belt before boarding.
  • Animals are permitted on the tram. A suitably closed shipping container or cage must be used to contain small animals. Passengers traveling with guide or hearing dogs who are blind or deaf are permitted aboard the trams. The dog must ride on the tram's floor and not a seat.
  • When riding the train, children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
