Doha residents will have the opportunity to learn more about reducing food waste and adopting more sustainable habits at a special World Food Day event taking place at IKEA Doha on October 15, 2026.

The event, titled “Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow,” is being organised by the Ministry of Municipality, represented by Al Daayen Municipality, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Philippines in Doha.

What is the event about?

The event will focus on practical ways individuals and communities can reduce food waste while exploring innovative solutions that can support a more sustainable food system.

Participants will be introduced to best practices designed to encourage more responsible food consumption and help contribute towards a healthier and more sustainable future.

The initiative forms part of activities marking World Food Day, which is observed internationally each year to raise awareness about food security, sustainable agriculture and responsible consumption.

Why reducing food waste matters

Food waste is not only about throwing away unused food. It also means wasting the water, energy, transport and other resources used to produce and deliver it.

Simple changes such as planning meals, storing food correctly, using leftovers and buying only what is needed can help households reduce unnecessary waste.

Events such as this aim to make those everyday changes easier to understand and adopt.
