A Brief History

Al Kheesa began as a modest garden settlement whose Arabic name is often linked to the idea of a large garden, reflecting the wells and cultivated plots that historically supported it. It appears in early records of the region and had its village boundaries formally demarcated in 1988. An early landmark was Qatar Radio's first transmission station, established here in 1968. In more recent years the local municipality has been developing Al Kheesa into a planned residential hub intended eventually to house tens of thousands of residents.

The built environment is predominantly low-rise and residential rather than high-rise, centred on stand-alone villas, gated family compounds and small apartment blocks ranging from studios to three-bedroom units.
