Daily Life

New Salata (As Salatah al Jadidah) and the adjoining Al Asiri form an established, centrally located residential area in the middle of Doha. Largely low- to mid-rise, it blends older villa compounds and standalone houses on its inner streets with apartment buildings and busy commercial roads lined with groceries, restaurants, salons and everyday services. Sitting between the C-Ring and D-Ring roads, it offers a settled, convenient base close to the city centre without being in its busiest quarters.

A Brief History

New Salata grew in the 1970s, when families from the older coastal As Salatah district moved west onto then-undeveloped land at the edge of Doha, giving the district its name, As Salatah al Jadidah, or "New Salata." As the capital expanded, the area was absorbed into central Doha and linked by the C-Ring Road, maturing into a settled residential and commercial neighbourhood. The neighbouring Al Asiri district, just across the municipal boundary in Al Rayyan, is best known for the Al Asiri Interchange, once called the Midmac Roundabout after the contracting company long headquartered nearby.

Architecture & Character

The built environment is predominantly low- to mid-rise rather than tower-led, combining walled villa compounds and houses on the quieter inner streets with apartment blocks and mixed-use commercial buildings along the main roads. The overall feel is that of a lived-in, traditional central-Doha neighbourhood rather than a planned waterfront or gated community. Notable landmarks include Al Arabi Sports Club with its Grand Hamad Stadium, New Salata Park, and the Al Asiri Interchange that marks the area's western edge.
