Lusail International Circuit Named 'Most Improved' and 'Fastest Progressing' in 2026 Sustainability Index

Lusail International Circuit has been named "Most Improved" and "Fastest Progressing" in the 2026 Sustainable Circuits Index, following a major rise in its sustainability performance.

The circuit gained 17 points and climbed 31 places in the global ranking, representing the biggest year-on-year improvement achieved by any circuit included in the assessment.

The recognition adds to the circuit's environmental credentials. Lusail International Circuit holds the FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation, the highest level available under the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme.

The Sustainable Circuits Index assesses motorsport venues according to a range of environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria.

Under the strategic oversight of the non-profit Sustainability Alliance, Innovation Consultancy collects and analyses data covering 115 international motorsport circuits. The results then undergo an independent academic assessment led by Professor Paolo Taticchi of University College London's School of Management, based on 21 sustainability and institutional performance criteria.

Lusail International Circuit's recent sustainability measures include the use of solar energy across its facilities and an operational fleet of electric vehicles.

The circuit has also introduced initiatives aimed at increasing environmental awareness and fan participation, including recycling stations made from repurposed wood and an interactive recycling wall in the Formula 1 Fan Zone.

The index report also highlighted the circuit's efforts to improve accessibility and inclusion by providing quiet spaces designed to accommodate sensory needs during race weekends.

Abdulaziz Ali Al Mohannadi, CEO of Lusail International Circuit, said the recognition reflects the circuit's commitment to turning sustainability ambitions into measurable practices and results.

He said being named "Most Improved" and "Fastest Progressing", alongside the circuit's FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation, represents an important milestone while providing further motivation to improve its performance and expand its sustainability impact.

Al Mohannadi added that the circuit remains committed to contributing to the ambitions of Qatar National Vision 2030 and to developing a more sustainable and responsible motorsport ecosystem.

Lusail International Circuit has also formally joined the Sports for Climate Action Framework under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Its long-term priorities include protecting nature and biodiversity, improving the sustainability of event operations, reducing carbon emissions, strengthening waste management and expanding environmental awareness and community participation.

The circuit said it will continue integrating sustainability across its operations as it works towards establishing a global model for motorsport that combines sporting excellence, environmental responsibility and positive social impact by 2030.
