Qatar’s Scalzone traps silver after a dramatic final in Hangzhou

Qatar’s Angelo Scalzone secured a hard-fought silver in the men’s trap event at the ISSF World Cup 2026 in Hangzhou, finishing just one hit behind USA’s gold medallist William Hinton, who closed the final on 28 targets to Scalzone’s 27.

In a world-class field featuring Olympic medallists and seasoned champions, Hinton recovered from two early misses to produce long sequences of perfect shooting and maintain his advantage to the end.

Scalzone matched him almost shot for shot, keeping the contest alive until a late miss proved decisive. China’s Qi Ying delighted the home crowd by taking bronze with 22 hits after remaining in medal contention throughout the eliminations.

Italy’s London 2012 Olympic silver medallist Massimo Fabbrizi finished fourth on 16 hits, narrowly missing another World Cup podium.

Chinese Taipei’s Yang Kun Pi placed fifth with 13 hits, India’s Bhowneesh Mendiratta was sixth with 11, and American Jack Brosseau finished seventh on eight hits. Italian great Giovanni Pellielo, a four-time Olympic medallist and one of ISSF’s most decorated shotgun shooters, completed the eight-man final in eighth place with seven hits.
