Qatar targets 10 million trees by 2030

Qatar is continuing efforts to plant 10 million trees by 2030 as part of its wider strategy to combat desertification, restore terrestrial ecosystems and strengthen the sustainability of natural resources.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change highlighted the target during Qatar’s participation in the United Nations Conference to Combat Desertification (COP17) in Mongolia.

Qatar showcases land restoration efforts

During the conference, Qatar presented its national initiatives aimed at protecting and rehabilitating rangelands and restoring degraded terrestrial ecosystems.

The Ministry said these environmental rehabilitation projects form part of the country’s ongoing work to preserve natural resources and respond to the challenges of desertification and climate change.

The programme includes efforts to restore natural habitats and expand vegetation cover, alongside the target of planting 10 million trees by the end of the decade.

Supporting sustainability and climate action

Increasing vegetation and rehabilitating natural landscapes can contribute to healthier ecosystems while supporting efforts to reduce land degradation.

The Ministry said Qatar will continue implementing environmental rehabilitation programmes that support the sustainable use of natural resources and reinforce national action against desertification.

The initiatives also contribute to the country’s broader environmental and climate goals, with land restoration forming an important part of efforts to build greater ecological resilience.

Qatar brings national experience to COP17

Through its participation at COP17, Qatar is sharing its experience in land rehabilitation and ecosystem restoration with the international community while engaging in global discussions on desertification and climate change.

The 10-million-tree target remains one of the key measures highlighted as Qatar works to expand green cover and strengthen the long-term resilience of its natural environment.
