Trump demands Iran pay compensation for victims of past 50 years of conflicts

US President Donald Trump said he would seek compensation from Iran for victims of conflicts over the past 50 years, in response to Tehran’s demands for compensation for damage suffered during the current conflict.

In a Truth Social post, Trump said Iran was seeking compensation for damage caused during the five-month conflict, despite the issue not being raised in previous negotiations.

He added he would seek compensation for those killed or injured in Iranian attacks and conflicts, including victims of the USS Cole attack, as well as the families of protesters he said were killed in Iran over the past five decades.

The remarks came after Iran said it was nearing an agreement on new maritime routes through the Strait of Hormuz, while demanding US compensation, an end to sanctions, and military threats before reopening the strategic waterway.
