Now that the 2018 FIFA World Cup has wound down in Russia, the world’s eyes will all be on Qatar, which will host the mega tournament in four year’s time.

HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was in Russia for the final of the tournament, where he met Russian President Vladimir Putin and held a meeting with him at the Kremlin in Moscow.

Putin congratulated HH The Emir for officially receiving the 2022 FIFA World Cup host’s mantle.

President Putin expressed confidence that the people of Qatar will make the next tournament a success, stressing his country’s readiness to provide assistance in this area, reported Gulf Times.

HH The Emir congratulated the Russian president on the organisation of the great event.

He underlined that the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be a tournament for all Arabs, pointing out that the Arab region is going through a difficult time. He stressed that Qatar is a great nation which is able to overcome all differences.

The meeting at the Kremlin dealt with the close bilateral relations and means of developing aspects of co-operation between the two friendly countries, especially in the fields of investment, energy, defence, culture and sports.

HH The Emir and the Russian president discussed a number of regional and international issues, especially developments in the Middle East, particularly Palestine and Syria.

The two leaders also discussed the Gulf crisis and the need to resolve it through dialogue.
