Book lovers in Qatar should be feeling quite excited as the 30th edition of the Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) is all set to kick off on January 9, 2020, and run until January 18, 2020, at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC).

The slogan for this edition is “Do you then not contemplate,” inspired from a verse from the Holy Quran. The fair is organized by the Ministry of Culture and Sports and it will take place under the supervision and organization of the Qatar Centre for Cultural and Heritage Event Center.

This year’s edition will mark the 30th anniversary of this remarkable cultural event which is also the largest international book fair in the region. The fair is popular for attracting a large participation from Arab and foreign countries.

Doha International Book Fair will coincide with the launch of the Qatar-France Year of Culture 2020, which will enable a momentous French presence during the event, along with a diversified cultural mosaic.

“The exhibition activities are scheduled to continue over a period of ten days like the previous editions to give a great opportunity for the visitors to experience a distinguished cultural experience, and to allow publishers to display their diverse cultural releases,” said Jassem al-Buainain, Director of Doha International Book Fair.

“Around 335 publishing houses are participating in the event from both Arab and foreign countries besides some children's books. The pavilions booked at the fair amounted to 797 pavilions, in addition to a number of embassies of countries including the USA, Japan, Palestine, Kyrgyzstan, Philippines, and Syria, who have booked their stalls,” he added.

For the 10th consecutive year, HBKU Press will participate in this book fair and launch during this coming edition an eclectic longlist of books spanning all genres. Between January 9 and 18, the HBKU Press booth will showcase over 100 new titles including a mix of original language works in Arabic and English as well as translated works from other languages.

In addition to the book displays, the Book Fair will also feature writers, dozens of sideline conferences, workshops, and cultural activities.

The fair will be held from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. On Friday from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and on Thursday from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm.
