Finally, the huge yellow lamp bear will no longer feel alone at the Hamad International Airport.

This is because the latest artwork at HIA — titled Small Lie by American artist Kaws — has been unveiled by Qatar Museums (QM), reported Gulf Times.

Earlier, there had been reports that work on the 32ft-tall structure was fast nearing completion.

Reminicent of a wooden marionette, the sculpture is made from Afrormosia wood and weighs a cool 15 tonnes. Small Lie is located in the North node of HIA, near Concourse E, a strategic location for the benefit of the 30 million passengers transiting through HIA on a yearly basis, reported The Peninsula.

The inauguration was attended by Kaws, HIA Chief Operating Officer Badr Mohammed Al Meer and QM Chief Strategic Planning Officer Khalid Yousef Al Ibrahim.

Delivered as part of QM’s commitment to make art available to all beyond the confines of a gallery, Small Lie is the latest addition to the airport’s fine art collection of more than twenty permanent pieces created by local and international artists.

Kaws (whose real name is Brian Donnelly) is the fourth American artist joining HIA’s Art Programme.

A painter, sculptor, product designer and collector, Kaws is considered one of the most distinctive artists of our time.
