The first day of 2022 witnessed a massive rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in Qatar. The
Ministry of Health (MoPH) recorded a rise of 833 cases among the Qatar population in a single
day. Out of these, nearly 563 are from the local community, while 270 cases were from among
travelers.
This brings the total number of current active cases in Qatar to 5,045. Out of these, over 300
are admitted to hospitals for treatment.
The MoPH also reported that 168 patients recovered and tested negative on January 1, 2022.
The death toll remained zero.
The spike in the number of cases only reinstates the need to administer booster doses to a
larger group of people and children. The Ministry advises that the public must take the booster
dose for the Covid-19 vaccine as soon as they get the opportunity. Here are the metrics of the
Covid-19 vaccine administered in Qatar:
Number of Covid-19 vaccines administered in the last 24 hrs: 3,973
Total number of booster doses administered so far: 277,957
Total number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered since the beginning of the vaccination
campaign: 5,209,637
MoPH has urged the public to play their role in containing the virus and ensuring the general
safety of themselves and others. The following precautionary measures are prescribed:
1. Everyone must adhere to strict physical distancing in public spaces.
2. Public is advised to avoid physical contact with others, especially in closed and confined
spaces, crowds, and gatherings.
3. Wearing the face mask at all times in a public setting is a must.
4. Hygiene measures must be taken, including washing of hands and sanitization of public
spaces.
Apart from this, if anyone tests positive or shows symptoms, it is advisable to inform everyone
they had been in contact within the last couple of days. It becomes easier to isolate, treat and
contain the virus at the earliest.
Anyone exhibiting Covid-19 symptoms should contact the 16000 helpline immediately.
