The rate of e-Accessibility in Qatar has zoomed to 91%, making it the best at the regional, Arab and world level, said Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim Seif Ahmed Al Sulaiti.
He made the announcement on the sidelines of the Gulf Region Education Assistive Technology Conference 2018 (Great 2018), organised by Mada Assistive Technology Centre.
“It’s a matter of pride that Qatar spares no effort to invest in the field of technology for everyone, including for people with disabilities. They need these compensatory means to make their lives easier at all stages — from childhood to adulthood,” Al Sulaiti was quoted as saying by Gulf Times.
Mada Assistive Technology Centre CEO Maha Al Mansouri praised the results of the conference and its role in bringing together experts in the field of Assistive Technology and e-accessibility at the global level.
“The international participation reflects the advanced scientific level as well as the regional and international role played by Qatar. This conference has been well recognized on the map of global assistive technology,” she told The Peninsula.
The Minister was all praise for the innovative and locally produced devices that were presented on the sidelines of the conference. Qatari youth, belonging to different institutions operating in the country, produced them, reported Qatar Tribune.
The Ministry of Interior was honoured with first place in e-Accessibility during the closing ceremony of Great 2018.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) finished second and third respectively. The design award was won by the Museum of Islamic Art.
