In the last few years, Al Wakra has grown to become a significant area where people head to in search of accommodation.

With more number of people arriving there, hospital facilities have also continued to evolve and grow.

The Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) also acknowledged the region’s importance by revealing that around 30,000 people visited the Al Wakra Hospital’s Emergency Department each month.

The hospital’s different outpatient departments treat approximately 20,000 patients each month, the hospital said, according to Gulf Times.

Thanks to the numbers, the Al Wakra hospital is now HMC’s second-busiest hospital in the country.

Every day, around 600 adult patients and 300 children are treated at the hospital’s Adult, and Paediatric Emergency Departments, with an additional 80 women cared for at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Emergency Department every month.

Al Wakra Hospital’s Medical Director Dr Sabah Al Kadhi said the hospital had been built keeping in mind the changing needs and expectations of the growing Al Wakra community.

“With a combined staff of 2,351, including 288 doctors across a variety of medical specialities, we provide a full range of diagnostic and treatment services for outpatients and inpatients, including day care patients of all ages,” said Dr Al Kadhi was quoted as saying by Qatar Tribune.

The hospital has continued to expand rapidly, with new departments being inaugurated in recent times. It recently launched the National Burns Center, a robotic surgery service for general surgery and urology, and a countrywide collaborative service with dentistry, diabetes, mental health, and cardiology. 

The number of new services introduced this year has helped reduce waiting time and improved access to elective care services. 

Up to 3,500 patients are treated each month by the Rehabilitation Department, which has a hydrotherapy pool and dedicated facilities for male, female, and pediatric patients.

The hospital’s future expansion plans include the commissioning of a new CT scan, which is expected to be operational early this year.

Opened in 2012, the Al Wakra Hospital serves the rapidly growing communities of Al Wakra, Mesaieed, and the South Doha Airport area.

As one of HMC’s most extensive facilities, the hospital is spread across more than 300,000SqM of land. It has over 325 beds, including 234 general and acute patient beds and more than 90 critical care beds for high-dependency and burns patients, the hospital also has 77 observation and daycare beds.
