Architecture is a visual art and the buildings speak for themselves. Qatar has made rapid developments in its infrastructure over the last few decades and it's no surprise that residents and visitors are as invested in these projects as the developers.
QL is excited to continue the unique building series that showcases the magnificent architectural design embedded in Qatar’s buildings. Find out all you need to know about these iconic landmarks:
Museum of Islamic art
As part of Qatar Museum’s initiatives, the Museum of Islamic art has been built on an island in the heart of Doha - conveniently located near other tourist attractions.
Among the exhibits in the museum are collections of Islamic art, exhibition catalogs, history, and architectural splendor. The library contains a variety of books and monographs on the subject of Islamic art. Even though MIA is not a religious institution, prayer rooms and ablution facilities are available for all Muslim visitors inside the museum.
Also nearby are MIA Park and Corniche, which host many activities and events throughout the year, such as workshops, sports, film screenings, and more.
Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel
With stunning views of the city skyline, the Sheraton Grand Doha is ideally situated in Doha's City Center. Just a few minutes away from Qatar's most iconic malls and landmarks, it's the perfect place to start your getaway.
Sheraton Grand Doha features some of the most popular and elegant restaurants in Doha, including cuisines from all across the world. Aside from this, the hotel offers outstanding facilities, including a ballroom, a fitness center, and wedding venues.
Qatar National Convention Centre
The Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) is strategically located adjacent to the Qatar Science and Technology Park, the Sidra Medical Research Center, and a range of elite universities, accommodations, and research and technology institutions within the Education City.
This venue houses a conference hall, exhibition halls, auditoria, meeting rooms, and the Al Mayassa theater - all of which are capable of hosting events like international conferences, exhibitions, banquets, business meetings, graduations, weddings, and live concerts.
Al Mansour Gate
The Mansour Gate, located in Lusail's Energy City, spans 35,000 square meters. The project is to be used as a complex featuring retail outlets, a boutique hotel, and four commercial office buildings. Several international oil and gas companies are expected to move into the $295 million development.
Lusail’s Energy City can be easily accessed using the Legtaifiya Tram which is linked with the Doha Metro.
Hamad International Airport
The new Hamad International Airport opened in 2014. It is located just a short distance from the city of Doha and the sparkling Arabian Gulf.
With its innovative design, the airport pays tribute to the nation's vibrant cultural heritage and natural surroundings. By its striking curving structure, the building evokes waves of the ocean which creates an impression of a gateway to the world.
Construction involved the removal of 6.2 million cubic meters of waste material, the desalination of which became a landfill. This was one of the largest environmental projects in the Gulf region.
Cubes Tower
Designed with the seal of Qatar as inspiration, this landmark hotel complex is expected to become a hospitality benchmark in Lusail. Wooden doors were the basis for the unique design of this 22-floor waterfront residential building in Lusail, Marina. It was designed by the Lebanese firm E Square Architects.
For each Apartment Entrance Door, the Architect envisioned two different finishes with a dual-tone veneer finish, a White Oak veneer finish on one face & Walnut veneer finish on the other, which was rare. Electra's expertise allowed them to provide the exact requirements and meet the designer's perspective.
A total of over 1200 wooden doors were supplied and installed by Electra for this project, which was completed on time.
Qatar National Library
Qatar National Library (QNL) is the largest and most renowned library in Education City.
It is known for its wide variety of free, easily accessible resources. The library has an exquisite layout and design and offers a variety of facilities to encourage effective learning.
QNL is a must-see destination when in Qatar. Through the library, people can discover different cultures and research using a variety of sources.
