Ashghal begins QR 1.179 billion redevelopment of Hamad General Hospital

Qatar’s Public Works Authority, Ashghal, has started a major project to upgrade Hamad General Hospital, covering its facilities, infrastructure, systems and supporting services.

The project is being carried out in coordination with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) at a total cost of approximately QR 1.179 billion and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2027.

Three major project packages

Ashghal said the redevelopment has been divided into three main packages to allow the hospital’s essential departments and services to remain operational throughout the works.

The project includes:

• Construction of a new Day Surgery Building
• Modernisation of the Outpatient Tower
• Upgrades to the hospital’s Main Building
• Renovation and rehabilitation of the North and South Inpatient Towers
• Improvements to supporting infrastructure and service systems

Hospital to remain operational during works

Eng. Ahmed Al Emadi, Acting Head of the Health Projects Section at Ashghal, said the phased approach is designed to ensure the continued operation of the hospital’s key departments and services during implementation.

The project forms part of wider efforts to enhance Hamad General Hospital’s operational readiness, safety and ability to deliver a broad range of medical services.

Major mechanical and electrical upgrades

Project Engineer Eng. Maryam Al Marzouqi said the works also include the complete replacement of mechanical and electrical systems, internal drainage networks and other supporting services.

The upgrades will be carried out in line with current technical and engineering standards.

Supporting future healthcare needs

HMC’s Head of Healthcare Facilities Development, Hamad Al Khalifa, said the project supports the corporation’s ongoing efforts to modernise healthcare facilities in line with the continued development of services and the growing needs of patients and visitors.

Once completed, the redevelopment is expected to strengthen the hospital’s infrastructure, improve operational efficiency and support the continued delivery of healthcare services at Hamad General Hospital.
