Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed more than 3,430km of cycling paths between 2013 and 2025, marking a major milestone in its efforts to promote healthy lifestyles and sustainable mobility across Qatar.
On World Bicycle Day, Ashghal said the network includes cycling routes within highway, major road and local road projects, as well as the Olympic Cycling Track along Al Khor Coastal Road.
Developed in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, the network is designed to encourage cycling as an environmentally friendly mode of transport, support physical activity and help reduce carbon emissions.
According to Ashghal, the routes have been built to international standards and include both shared pedestrian-cycling paths and dedicated cycling lanes. Many are equipped with green spaces, shaded areas, rest stops, and bicycle parking facilities to improve comfort and safety.
Several routes, including the Olympic Cycling Track, also feature smart technologies and monitoring systems to enhance cyclist safety and operational efficiency.
Ashghal said it is continuing to expand the network and strengthen connections with Doha Metro stations to support multimodal transportation, while conducting studies and field surveys to extend coverage to more residential and commercial areas.
The initiative supports Qatar’s broader goal of developing sustainable, people-centred urban infrastructure in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
