In a bid to ensure road safety for all, the Traffic Department has reiterated its commitment to curb the use of mobile phones by drivers on Qatar’s roads.
Captain Abdul Wahid Gharib Al Anzi, Traffic Awareness Officer at the department said during a recent community awareness event in Doha.
According to the official, traffic personnel regularly conduct patrols to detect and record violations.
He highlighted that authorities have decided to further intensify awareness campaigns and initiate other steps in coordination with the departments concerned.
At present, the department holds awareness classes for employees and laborers at functions organized by different companies.
“The department is active in terms of holding special campaigns against the use of mobile phones while driving. We also deliver lectures and conduct exhibitions,” he said adding, “We also make use of the social media to spread awareness,” he said.
Moreover, officials visit spring camps and Qatari majlises to raise awareness among the public.
"Some motorists fail to take proper steps before changing lanes and also jump signals as they are busy using their mobile phones while driving. Also, pedestrians become victims as they, too, sometimes use mobile phones while crossing a street or walking along a road,” the official underlined.
A task force is working towards the implementation of Qatar's National Traffic Safety Strategy. Among different measures, authorities are focusing on inculcating a culture of traffic safety among school students by regularly interacting with students in field visits.
Moreover, lectures and workshops are organized while parents are being sent awareness messages through mobile phone as well as in direct meetings.
