In a bid to enhance traffic flow and ease congestion in the center of Doha, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has begun the implementation of the first four phases of the B-Ring Road Development Project.
According to Ashghal, the project aims to develop B-Ring Road and Al Khaleej Street, with a total length of 10km, and enhance their capacity by increasing the number of lanes on each of these roads from two to three lanes in each direction.
Moreover, the project focuses on developing Onaiza Street, and parts of the streets perpendicular to B-Ring Road such as Al Matar, Wadi Msheireb, Rawdat Al Khail, and Al Rayyan streets.
The project also includes developing the entrance to Rumailah Hospital.
Head of Doha City Projects in Ashghal’s Roads Projects Department, Mohamed Arqoub Al Khaldi, said this is one of the most important road projects being implemented by the authority.

It includes developing B-Ring Road and Al Khaleej Street, which are characterized by their heavy traffic movement as they connect traffic to and from vital areas such as Msheireb, Al Muntazah, Corniche, Al Sadd, and Bin Mahmoud.
B-Ring Road also connects several important facilities such as Rumailah Hospital, as well as touristic destinations such as the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ), the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), Souq Waqif, Al Bidda Park, and some other commercial establishments.
“Several Doha Metro stations are located within the project area, which increases the importance of this project as it will facilitate transportation between many vital destinations in the center of Doha and the rest of the country.”
Additionally, to facilitate traffic movement between A-Ring Road and B-Ring Road, the project will upgrade six intersections - the Fareej Abdul Aziz Intersection, Al Doha Al Jadeed Intersection and the intersections known as Asiad Intersection, Wadi Rasheeda Intersection, Al Orouba Intersection, and Bin Dirham Intersection.
Ashghal will develop a new intersection, marking the crossing of Al Khaleej Street with Al Jazeera Street.
Furthermore, three roundabouts will be converted into signal-controlled intersections, namely, the Qasr Al Marmar, Al Mannai (Al Khaleej) and Wadi Msheireb (Al Jaidah Bridge) roundabouts.
Under the project, two pedestrian bridges with elevators on Al Khaleej Street, coupled with cycling and pedestrian lanes, road signs and road markings, and new street lighting will also be set up to improve traffic safety. The number of parking bays will be increased, in addition to landscaping works.
Ashghal also said the project will see the development of infrastructure services in the area such as upgrading the stormwater drainage system to avoid water accumulation during the rainy season and developing the existing potable water, irrigation and drainage networks.
Al Jaber & Makhlouf Construction Company is carrying out the implementation works of the QR472mn project, under the supervision of Italconsult.
All phases of the project will be completed by the second quarter of 2021.
