The Al Khor Workers’ Sports Complex in the Industrial Area, which has seen many events in the past, is set to get a major facelift soon, thanks to a project by Barwa Real Estate Group.

Barwa recently awarded the QR105m Al Khor Sports Facilities expansion project to Al Bader Construction and Steel Works, with the construction expected to be completed within 18 months, reported Gulf Times.

Barwa explained that the project was an extension of the Al Khor Recreation Facilities project for workers at the Industrial Area of Al Khor City. The facility is expected to built on a 69,757SqM plot, including an 8,000SqM hypermarket and a 300SqM multipurpose hall.
The project will also include 512 one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, which is expected to create good living conditions that will include all necessary residential amenities and services, according to Qatar Tribune.

The infrastructure works will include an electricity substation, parking lots and internal roads. It will ensure adequate supply of water and electricity and will have proper management systems for sewage, irrigation, communications, surveillance and fire brigade.

The Al Khor recreation facilities for workers seek to raise the standard of living of labourers in Qatar by providing them access to sports facilities and quality leisure hours.

The Al Khor Worker’s Sports Complex already boasts four cricket fields, four football pitches, three volleyball courts, four basketball courts and four kabaddi fields. 

The complex can host numerous events and sports activities simultaneously. The number of visitors to the complex during 2016 exceeded 500,000.
