As part of a campaign launched by the Qur'anic Botanic Garden, HE Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari planted a fig tree, and HE British Ambassador to Qatar Nicholas Hopton planted an olive tree inside the embassy premises, giving the fact that these two trees symbolize peace and generous giving, and were mentioned in the Holy Qur'an.

The event was an initiative by director of the Qur'anic Botanic Garden Fatima Saleh Al Khulaifi to reflect Qatar Foundation's keenness on environmental development, which is at the core task of the Qur'anic Botanic Garden.

The Qur'anic Botanic Garden, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, launched the "planting" drive in 2011, when it participated, on behalf of the Qatar Foundation in the "Billion Tree Campaign" sponsored by the United Nations Environment Program.
