The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an exam which people have to undergo if they wish to pursue higher studies in the UK.

Over the years, the British Council Qatar has been organising the IELTS tests in the country.

The British Council Qatar yesterday announced that the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) will be the new test centre for IELTS exams starting from November 1 this year, according to Gulf Times.

QNCC, located in Gharafat Al Rayyan, is one of the largest and technologically advanced venues in the entire Middle East.

“The introduction of this most sophisticated and comprehensive test venue will significantly enrich the customer journey and experience for our IELTS candidates. We believe the new venue will exceed all customer expectations and prove to become the best IELTS test centre in the region,” said British Council Qatar country director Dr Frank Fitzpatrick.

IELTS is the most widely used test of English for migration to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. It is recognised by more than 10,000 universities, schools, employers and immigration bodies, including all universities in Australia and the UK and many of the leading institutions in the US.

More than three million IELTS tests were taken last year. IELTS tests measure an applicant’s four key languages skills — listening, speaking, reading and writing.
