At its regular meeting held today, the Qatari Cabinet extended its support to the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) for officially submitting its request to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to join the continuous dialogue" on hosting a future edition of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as early as 2032.

His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani chaired the meeting, which was held through video conferencing.

After the meeting, HE the Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Dr Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi announced the following:

- At the start of the meeting, the Cabinet congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the blessed occasion of Eid Al Adha, asking Allah Almighty good health and happiness for HH the Amir, and more splendor, goodness, development and prosperity for the people of Qatar, under HH the Amir’s wise leadership.

- Expressing its support to QOC, the Cabinet underlined that Qatar is qualified to host one of the Olympic and Paralympic Games for the first time in the Middle East.

Qatar is capable to do so with its distinguished organizational experiences, integrated infrastructure, modern sports facilities, comprehensive development renaissance, and its prestigious position on the global sports field, which allowed Qatar to organize the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

This is in addition to its previous hosting of several regional, continental and international sports tournaments, and its continuous and fruitful efforts to develop sports locally and internationally, as an effective way to promote world peace and spread the spirit of cooperation, solidarity, and brotherhood in the world.

- The Cabinet was then briefed by Her Excellency the Minister of Public Health on the latest developments to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

- The Cabinet stressed the need to continue with the announced precautionary measures to combat the virus.

Following that, the Cabinet considered the topics on the agenda as follows:

First - Approval of the draft law establishing the Commercial Court and the law to issue it.

Second - Approval of the two draft urban planning law and its executive regulations.
