Qatari customs officials are famed for their meticulousness when it comes to screening passengers and confiscating illegal drugs entering the country through them.

On Monday, yet another eagle-eyed Qatari customs official foiled a passenger’s attempt to smuggle 2.7kg of cannabis into the country via the Hamad International Airport.

The General Authority of Customs, in a social media post, said a box belonging to the errant passenger was checked more thoroughly upon an inspector’s suspicion. A closer inspection revealed 2.7 kilograms of the contraband hidden inside wooden boards packed into the box.

Last week, Qatar’s Air Cargo Customs also foiled a smuggling attempt when around 200gms of cannabis was found wrapped inside chocolate candy wrappers and stored inside a package containing foodstuff.

Qatar’s General Authority of Customs has been warning people against bringing illegal goods into the country. The department is well-equipped with the latest screening devices and well-trained personnel who can identify errant passengers based on their body language, among other indicators.
