Design Doha Biennial 2026: Exhibitions & Guide

Published June 2026

If you're mapping out your cultural calendar, here's one to plan around: the Design Doha Biennial 2026 runs from 5 November 2026 to 31 January 2027, with opening days on 5–7 November. The second edition of Qatar's landmark design event spreads across the heritage houses, courtyards and sikkas of Fereej Al Asmakh in old Doha, bringing together more than 15 exhibitions and participants from over 20 countries. This Design Doha Biennial 2026 exhibitions, venues and visitor guide covers everything you need to plan your trip.

Design Doha Biennial 2026 at a glance

The Biennial is a region-wide celebration of design in all its forms — architecture, furniture, product design, urban planning, crafts, textiles, UX/UI, sound, service and social design among them. The 2026 programme draws creatives from across the MENASA region, with contributors representing 27 countries, and turns a cluster of restored heritage buildings into a living design district for three months.

  • Dates: 5 November 2026 to 31 January 2027 (opening days 5–7 November)
  • Main location: Fereej Al Asmakh, Doha
  • Flagship show: Arab Design Now at Building i22, Msheireb Downtown Doha
  • Scale: 15+ exhibitions, participants from 20+ countries
  • Public art: Five commissions activating public spaces across the city

When and where is the Biennial?

The headline venue is Fereej Al Asmakh, one of the oldest neighbourhoods in central Doha. Rather than one big hall, the Biennial scatters exhibitions, commissions and programmes through traditional courtyard houses and narrow sikkas (alleyways), so visiting feels like wandering a design-filled old town. Set aside a few hours — this is a walk-and-discover experience, not a one-room show.

Fereej Al Asmakh — the heritage heart

Fereej Al Asmakh sits a short distance from Msheireb Downtown Doha and Souq Waqif, so it's easy to combine a Biennial visit with lunch or an evening stroll. The restored buildings are part of the experience: expect shaded courtyards, traditional architecture and contemporary installations side by side.

Arab Design Now at Building i22, Msheireb

The Biennial's flagship exhibition, Arab Design Now, is staged at Building i22 in Msheireb Downtown Doha. It's a short walk or a quick ride on the Doha Metro from Fereej Al Asmakh, and it anchors the citywide design conversation that runs through the whole event.

Must-see exhibitions in 2026

With more than 15 exhibitions on the programme, there's plenty to explore across the different disciplines. Confirmed shows include:

  • Arab Design Now — the flagship survey of contemporary design from the region, at Building i22, Msheireb
  • Design Labs II — experimental, research-driven design
  • Aslan's Love
  • The Muqarnas of Sadu — traditional weaving reimagined
  • INTERLACED Dialogues in Design
  • Threading The Ceremony
  • Bu'ed Nadhar
  • The Thread That Binds
  • The Sower
  • Post-Oil 2026 — design responses to a post-oil future
  • Baseqat Collection
  • Rooted in Warmth

Together the shows span furniture, textiles, product and social design, so whether you're a professional designer or just curious, there's plenty here to spark ideas.

Five public commissions across Doha

You don't need a ticket to encounter the Biennial. Five new public commissions are installed in public spaces around the city, powered by Ashghal, so parts of the programme spill out into everyday Doha. Keep an eye out as you move around town — these large-scale works are made to be seen and used by everyone, not tucked away behind a gallery door.

Tickets, opening hours and bookings

Early-bird tickets are available ahead of opening. At the time of writing, the exact QAR ticket price and the full exhibition-specific opening hours had not yet been published, so it's worth checking the official Design Doha channels close to your visit for confirmed pricing and timings.

  • Tickets: Early-bird tickets on sale; confirmed QAR pricing released progressively
  • Opening hours: Exhibition-specific hours to be announced
  • Programme bookings: Talks, tours and programmes released in stages — book ahead for popular sessions

Because venue details, accessibility information and visitor guidelines are being released gradually, the smart move is to plan loosely now and confirm the specifics nearer the time.

How to get there — Metro, parking and access

Fereej Al Asmakh and Msheireb are among the most Metro-friendly parts of Doha. The Msheireb interchange station on the Doha Metro — where the Red, Gold and Green lines meet — puts you within easy walking distance of both the heritage area and Building i22, and it's by far the simplest way to skip the downtown parking hassle. A Karwa taxi or a ride-hailing drop-off also works well.

Official transport, parking and venue-access details for the Biennial itself were still being finalised. If you're driving, give yourself extra time to find parking around Msheireb and the old-city streets, which can get busy in the evenings.

Tips for visitors

  • Go on foot: The Fereej Al Asmakh experience is all about wandering the sikkas — wear comfortable shoes.
  • Combine your trip: Pair the Biennial with Msheireb Downtown Doha, Msheireb Museums or Souq Waqif in a single outing.
  • Visit in the cooler hours: November to January is Doha's best weather, so late afternoons and evenings are ideal for walking between venues.
  • Catch the free commissions: Even without a ticket, the five public commissions are worth seeking out.
  • Book popular programmes early: Talks and tours can fill up, so reserve ahead where possible.
