The 4th edition of the AIPS Sport Media Awards was held in Doha on Sunday at the famous Khalifa International Stadium in a spectacular open-air celebration.

Sheikh Faisal bin Ahmed Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatar Sports Media Committee, was joined by AIPS President Giannin Merlo and dozens of other dignitaries on a stage set up on the playing surface of Qatar's most prestigious sports venue, where young and senior sport journalists were recognized for their moving pictures, stories, and documentaries.

The first-place winners in each senior category received $8,000, while the second- and third-place nominees received $3,000 and $2,000, respectively.

The top three young reporters in each category (photography, writing, and broadcasting) were awarded prizes as well as a scholarship to a big international sporting event taking place this year.

The President of the Qatar Press Centre, Saad Al Romaihi, was also present. Sheikh Faisal bin Ahmed Al Thani was congratulated by Merlo for hosting the ceremony in this spectacular arena. “I hope everyone here have seen what young journalists are capable of. “Sport is part of our lives. It helps us to speak together. It helps build bridges. We have to applaud the people who cover sports in their own style and present it to the world,.” he added.

Merlo also mentioned that their organization is hosting a number of Young Reporters Programs to help them get started. They started along this road in 2016, when they chose to invest in culture. Their goal is to maintain sports as clean as possible.

“Qatar feels proud to have hosted the AIPS family for these awards. I congratulate all the winners tonight. I applaud them for their hard work. We have hard working young journalists who tell us amazing stories through their work.” , said Sheikh Faisal during the ceremony.

Around 30 journalists were honored for their work in the media from Serbia, the United States, China, France, Australia, Algeria, Brazil, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, Iran, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Italy, Uganda, and Ghana.

The banquet was hosted by Italian journalist Valentina Clemente, and the early keynote speech was given by Riccardo Romani, who has covered battles in Ukraine, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

“When I teach my class during our Young Reporters Programmes, I make aware our young students about the challenges posed by the constant changing of journalism,” Romani said
