Advancing its focus on youth empowerment, Qatar will host a five-day youth conference titled Doha Islamic Youth Forum from July 7 to 11.

Qatar’s Ministry of Culture and Sports will run the forum under the slogan “Youth is the power of the Nation” with the support of the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF), an international organization affiliated with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Over 9,000 youths from across the world have registered to join the forum, which aims to empower youth to contribute positively to their societies.

The forum will cover four themes comprising good governance and transparency, sustainable development, use of social media, and diplomatic simulation.

Some of the objectives of the forum include highlighting the youth’s significant role in driving future developments, honing the youth’s skills to facilitate community development, and encouraging values of belonging and citizenship among the youth.

Young participants at the forum will have the opportunity to attend workshops and discussions aimed to empower them to realize their potential in making a positive change within their communities.

The forum will also feature a training course fashioned after the OIC and its rules and procedures.

Four simulation sessions will take place during the forum with two OIC-style meetings where the first will adopt draft resolutions and the second will announce these resolutions.

While registration is now closed, a committee will review the applications and select 90 participants from the participating countries.

About 57 OIC member countries, including Oman, Kuwait, Indonesia, Malaysia, and other countries from the Gulf region, and 58 non-member countries have participated in the application process.

The committee will also assess the participants against criteria to confer the Youth Excellence Award.

The first six names of the award recipients will be announced on the forum’s official website on July 31.

Earlier, in 2018, Doha was chosen as the Capital of Islamic Youth for the year 2019 by the ICYF.
