In another outstanding achievement for Qatar, the Education City Golf Club (ECGC) has been recognized by worldclass.golf for its superior quality services and exemplary guest experience.
Worldclass.golf is a portfolio of the leading golf courses, destinations and resorts globally that have ensured exceptional visitor experience, by maintaining the highest standards across the complete golf process.
Designed by José María Olazábel, the ECGC is located on the outskirts of Doha and is set against the backdrop of the Education City Stadium, which will host the FIFA World Cup 2022 matches, up-to the quarter final stages.
The Club consists of a 33-hole facility that includes as its centerpiece, an 18-hole championship course, making its way through desert and wadi terrain. The first few holes are designed to take visitors through an ancient wadi wall that is meant to pique their interest as they continue with the on-course experience.
Education City’s six-hole course features two par 3’s, three par 4’s and one par five, intended to allow juniors, beginners and families the opportunity to experience a world-class golf course in a shorter format. A floodlit nine-hole par 3 course, with holes ranging from 100-175 yards in length, further enhances the facility.
Education City’s Centre of Excellence provides practice facilities to interested golfers, and is well on the way to become one the region’s top most learning facility. With state-of-the-art equipment including Trackman, Putting Lab, Swing Studio and a double-ended driving range, the Centre is said to have paved the way for the worldclass.golf status, according to publisher and managing director, Michael Lenihan, who visited the destination last month.
“The Centre of Excellence at Education City Golf Club has all the necessary facets to become one of the foremost golf academies in world [of] golf, and really does have to be seen to be believed,” said Lenihan.
“In fact the entire golf operation is truly world-class, and the visitor journey and on-course experience for guests will unquestionably be one of the finest in the region,” he added.
Accepting the invitation to join woldclass.golf, ECGC General Manager, Michael Braidwood said, “I read with interest the launch last Autumn of worldclass.golf, and knew instantly that Education City Golf Club would meet the key criteria for entry. We’ve worked hard behind the scenes to ensure that we have one of the best facilities in the world, and when the invitation to join like-minded destinations within the world- class.golf portfolio was extended, I had no hesitation in accepting.”
