The Executive Committee of the Qatar Football Association has approved the appointment of HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani as President of the association, as part of a leadership restructuring intended to complete the current Board of Directors’ term through 2027.
The committee also approved the appointment of Sheikh Tamim bin Mohammed Al Thani as Vice-President.
The appointments fill the positions left vacant following the resignations of former QFA President HE Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain and former Vice-President HE Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Suwaidi.
The decisions will be submitted to the QFA General Assembly for ratification during its meeting scheduled for September.
The appointments were approved during an Executive Committee meeting held on Tuesday to discuss preparations and key decisions related to the upcoming football season, as well as the appropriate mechanism for completing the Board of Directors’ current term.
The committee had met the previous Sunday and agreed to nominate two members to fill the vacant positions in accordance with the association’s applicable regulations and procedures.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the Executive Committee also reviewed the latest QFA activities and a report on the Qatar national team’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Among the other decisions approved was the introduction of QSL 3, a new third-tier football competition that will join the existing league structure alongside the Doha Bank League and QSL 2.
The committee also granted Al Riffa Club permission to participate in youth competitions beginning with the current season.
