One of the oft-heard complaints about teachers in private schools is that they also take private tuition for kids, which is a much more lucrative option.

However, Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education has began to crack down on private tutors, who are violating the land’s laws by offering private services.

The ministry has employed inspectors with judicial powers to catch people offering private tuitions, The Peninsula reported citing a senior official.

“Private tuitions are banned by law. Newspapers are bound not to carry advertisements about private tuitions,” said Hassan Al Muhammadi, Director, Public Relations Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

Private tuitions, taken by teachers working in schools, is quite common in Qatar. It is quite expensive, which means teachers get to take home a much better package than what they make at schools.

However, doing private work almost always lead to them performing far worse at school. This has been ongoing for long and the government seems to finally be waking up to it.

Do you think this is a good initiative?
