Effective from today, Egypt reopens airspace for flights to and from Qatar, the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority has reported.

Egypt Air and Qatar Airways will resume flights between the two countries, allowing passengers to travel directly.

Yesterday, Bahrain's airspace has been opened for Qatar-registered aircraft.

This move comes shortly after the historic GCC Summit that took place in Saudi Arabia earlier this month.

Last week, leaders of the Gulf States came together at the 41st session of the Supreme Council of the Co-operation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), held in Al-Ula Governorate in Saudi Arabia.

Under the Al-Ula Declaration, the countries agreed to restore relations and pledged to enhance cooperation for the stability and prosperity of the Gulf region.

The agreement between the leaders signals a new phase of unity, brotherhood, and solidarity in the GCC.

On the eve of the summit, it was announced that the Qatar-Saudi airspace, land, and sea borders had been reopened.

On Monday, January 11, Qatar Airways began flights to Saudi Arabia, with services to Riyadh, followed by Jeddah on Thursday, January 14, 2021, and Dammam on Saturday, January 16, 2021.

The airline will operate daily flights to Riyadh and Dammam, and four weekly flights to Jeddah.
