It is not compulsory for passengers to wear a face shield, Qatar Airways has highlighted in a tweet.

However, the airline reiterated the requirement of wearing a face mask during flights.

"Qatar Airways would like to remind passengers that they must wear a face covering such as a medical mask during their flights. We would also like to point out that wearing a face shield is not mandatory," the airlines said in a post on Twitter in Arabic.

The reminder from Qatar Airways comes after some false speculation on social media regarding a new travel update making face shield compulsory in flights.
