Qatar and Spain have enjoyed strong bilateral relations for decades.

The two nations have worked closely to enhance ties in the domains of energy, economy, trade, education and culture, among others.

As Qatar and Spain continue to consolidate their longstanding relations, ministers from the two countries held a joint press conference yesterday.

The press conference was led by His Excellency Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Co-operation Arancha Gonzalez Laya.

During the session, HE Sheikh Mohamed underlined that the Qatari-Spainsh ties are distinguished and the two countries look forward to further boost relations across various fields.

HE the FM said the Spanish minister’s visit comes within the framework of the excellent relations between Qatar and Spain, calling the ties between the two nations strong and historic.

HE Sheikh Mohamed said the Spanish minister’s discussions with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani as well as other Qatari officials focused on consolidating relations in the economic and developmental fields.

He also mentioned that Qatar is looking into increasing its investments in Spain, while Spain is also considering enhancing its investments in Qatar.

The FM also praised Spain for its role in various regional issues, particularly the Palestinian issue and the country’s firm position on the two-state solution.

HE Sheikh Mohamed also shined a spotlight on the deals the two countries signed yesterday in the domains of culture and sports.

The Spanish minister pointed out that this was her first visit to Qatar since she took over her position, praising the distinguished ties between the two countries.

She said she hoped 2021 would be the end of the pandemic so that life can go back to normal as soon as possible.

She noted that this was one of the topics she discussed in Doha, adding that the end of the pandemic will see economic ties between Qatar and Spain return to normal.

Referring to the agreement signed between the two countries, she said it seeks to expand cultural partnerships and promote Qatari history and culture, stressing that Spain supports Qatar’s efforts in hosting the World Cup 2022.
