Qatar has been stressing the need to combine efforts in defeating the common global threat of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
On a number of occasions recently, the country has urged the international community to recognize the importance of global solidarity in tackling the infectious disease that has affected more than 3.5 million people around the world.
Earlier, Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Advocate, Chairperson of Education Above All and Silatech, expressed solidarity and emphasized the need for urgent action to deal with the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19. She joined prominent leaders in the global advocacy effort, "Rise for All."
Also, recently, Her Excellency the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations (UN), Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Said Al Thani in a virtual dialogue entitled "The Future We Want - The United Nations We Need," called for the unification of efforts, joint efforts in dealing with the pandemic.
During her speech, HE Sheikha Alya underlined that the virus has reached all countries and is a test for all.
Yesterday, while participating in a virtual summit of heads of state and government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani reiterated Qatar's commitment to international cooperation in combating COVID-19.
The summit took place through videoconference under the motto "United against COVID-19."
The event emphasized the significance of international solidarity to tackle the disease including cooperation through the provision of medical equipment.
It also highlighted the need to promote multilateralism for stability and economic and social development after the crisis has passed.

Moreover, the summit discussed forming a task force that would be responsible for the establishment of a common database, reflecting the basic medical, social, and humanitarian needs of the Movement's countries in the fight against the virus.
The task force would also work to publish related information on an official website to stay connected with international humanitarian and charitable institutions, international companies, and other parties supporting social projects, Qatar News Agency reported.
Meanwhile, health authorities in Qatar continue to implement the highest level of monitoring, detection, and management procedures to deal with the virus, the public has been advised to follow certain measures to safeguard their health.
