Franck Gellet, France’s Ambassador to Qatar, has called for a speedy resolution to the ongoing Gulf crisis, which has seen Qatar being subjected to an unjust blockade.
Speaking on the sidelines of the centenary event of the 1918 Armistice that ended the First World War, Gellet said the world cannot ignore regional crises like the one Qatar is facing.

“We’ve seen in the past how regional conflicts have spread to the rest of the world and become threats to global security. As we’re talking about World War One, the conflict which started in a few European countries extended to 74 nations. So it’s important for all the countries to remain constantly vigilant and ensure regional conflicts are resolved before they spread to other regions,” he was quoted as saying by Qatar Tribune.
The ambassador said relations between France and Qatar had elevated from political to strategic levels.
“By saying strategic level, I mean there’ll be specific level of exchanges between France and Qatar which we don’'t have with all countries. These Qatar-France specific exchanges will happen within weeks or months. These exchanges will further demonstrate the depth of relations between the two countries,” he said.
“We are talking all the time about issues facing the region. As we know, we’re very good friends. We consult each other on all aspects of the regional situation, not only about the Gulf issues but broader. There’re many challenges in the region that raise many questions and concerns about global security. Qatar is a key actor on all these questions,” he added.
