In the heart of Doha, lies a unique restaurant that brings along with it, a rich British heritage served in the form of scrumptious dishes. The authentic British chain, “The Frying Scotsman” is situated at the Radisson Blu hotel in its east wing.

Coupled with a calm and cozy ambience, the restaurant gives off a welcoming aura to its visitors. Beautifully dotted with tartan for upholstery, the restaurant is surrounded with trains that run above it, to symbolize the inspiration drawn for the inception of the restaurant. Their servers are dressed in tartan material as well, in order to match the restaurant’s décor.

The unique history that this idea holds is related to “The Flying Scotsman” express passenger train service that operates between Edinburgh and London, the capitals of Scotland and England via the East Coast Main Line. Their staple diet was fish and chips. The idea drew inspiration to carry forth this traditional British dish.

Its’ inception dates back to the year 2012, where it first started at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. The restaurant’s re-opening at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Doha was in August 2019.

At The Frying Scotsman, you can part-take in refreshing suppers, soothing dinners or joyful High Teas in the afternoons savoring some sweet treats to end your meal.

The dishes served at the restaurant are elegant and hold simplicity at the same time. They also have portions served specially for kids. Their prices start from QAR 55 onwards. The starters for instance, that is a choice between potato-beef pie and scotch pie were absolutely delectable. The Scotch pie was succulent and tasted utterly divine. Whereas, the potato-beef pie was well cooked with just the right amount of mashed potato. Apart from these, you can also order crispy onion rings and scampi as starters.

The main course section consists of traditional British fish and fries. The fish options that are available are hamour, cod and haddock. The fish is cooked perfectly well and has a crispy golden coating. The fries are nothing compared to other normal fries. They are crisp on the outside and tender as well as moist on the inside. The dish was well presented and served with mushy peas and tartare sauce along with a sliced lemon to add a tangy flavor to it. To intensify the taste even more, you can always try out the Sarson’s Malt vinegar.

Disclaimer: The fish is fried in a butter batter that is alcoholic, holding true to its’ British tradition. Muslims can opt for a non-alcoholic butter batter for the same.

Dessert consisted of raspberries, meringue, strawberries , Vanilla ice cream and a crispy hot mars bar fried in a butter batter. The best part about dessert was the home-made Vanilla ice cream that was absolutely delicious.

One thing to bear in mind, is to always make reservations, as they don’t attend to walk-ins.

You can also book the entire restaurant for small gatherings to celebrate occasions like birthdays and other relevant events, provided the capacity of guests do not exceed 25.

Guests that reside within the hotel can always order take always or simply dine-in as well.

If you’re looking for authentic fish and chips, The Frying Scotsman is the place to hit. The portions are rather large and never fail to satisfy. The service is exceptionally welcoming and very helpful.
