The General Authority of Customs (GAC) has highlighted instructions for travelers in possession of any currency, financial bearer negotiable instruments, and precious metals or stones equivalent to or exceeding 50,000 Qatari Riyals.
Individuals in possession of such materials or currencies will be required to fill the declaration form, in addition to providing any additional information requested by the Customs office.
The regulation applies to individuals in possession of the following materials:
- Currencies in the form of Qatari Riyals or other foreign currencies.
- Monetary instruments in bearer form such as travelers’ cheques and negotiable instruments, including cheques, promissory notes, and money order that are either in bearer form endorsed without restriction, made out to a fictitious payee, or otherwise in such a form where title thereto passes upon delivery.
- Incomplete instruments including cheques, promissory notes, and money orders signed with the payee’s name omitted.
- Precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum and precious stones such as diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires, and pearls.

Moreover, GAC explained that false declaration or refusal to provide additional information to the Customs authorities on the source of the currency, financial bearer negotiable instruments or precious metal and stones equivalent to or greater than the aforementioned value exposes one to penalties that amount to imprisonment or fines, as well as the seizure of such funds.
