Through a new strategic partnership with innovative education platform 8billionideas, GEMS Wellington School Qatar (WSQ) is looking to offer Doha students enhanced real-world, practical business skills. This partnership aims to integrate social enterprise and entrepreneurship into the school's core curriculum.

As a result of the new partnership, the way the curriculum is delivered is changing, including Entrepreneurship and Enterprise as a regular part of the overall curriculum. In doing so, WSQ believes it will help students achieve success in an ever-changing world.

Ben Raybould, Vice Principal at GEMS Wellington School, Qatar, said: “For GEMS Wellington School, Qatar to be one of the first schools across the Middle East to launch such an innovative partnership with 8billionideas, who will work with every student aged 4-18 and our staff, is testament to the ambition we have for our entire community and highlights the strong connections we have across the global education sector.”

“The team from 8billionideas will very much become an extension of our staff body and through the building of authentic and lasting relationships, we know our initial projects are only the beginning. On top of this, to have the CEO and Founder of 8billionideas, David Harkin, working closely with our Executive Leadership team is incredibly special as we know his relentless energy and optimism will constantly challenge our thinking and stretch our horizons further,” he added.

Through 8billionideas, a UK-based educational company, young people acquire transferable entrepreneurship skills that will support their future success. As a result of the launch of the program WSQ, the existing curriculum will be enhanced, enabling teachers to deliver classes more engagingly and dynamically.

Additionally, the program is also provided at GEMS Wellington Academy - Al Khail, in Dubai, as part of joint initiatives between the Wellington groups.

David Harkin, Founder, and CEO of 8billionideas said: 'We are beyond excited about forming our first strategic partnership in Qatar, with GEMS Wellington School and the progressive innovative leaders that are the school's Principal and CEO David Wilson and Vice Principal Ben Raybould. 8billionideas will bring world class careers and entrepreneurship education into the school from Year 1 through to Year 13, driving their personalized curriculum and innovation strategy for today and into the future.”

“We're delighted this partnership is the first of its kind in the region, and we're excited that the ambitions and the vision of the school are completely in line with our own mission to give every student on the planet the skills and belief to change the world,” he added.

As of immediately, all core curriculum subjects will include entrepreneurship and business skills. For example, in Geography, a class exploring a particular region will benefit from extra support and guidance from an 8BillionIdeas facilitator while learning how to create a brochure and marketing campaign for the region and analyzing environmental risk factors with economic demands.

Through 8billionideas video resources and live mentor sessions led by certified mentors, teachers can prepare students for the working world by incorporating real-world concepts into the classroom.

For the first phase, students in Years 1-6 will be introduced to the program with age-appropriate materials for each pathway. At a later stage, the school plans to develop more programs. In addition to developing individual and team projects, students will take part in a Primary-wide competition to come up with a 'world-changing idea.
