Google Chrome adds new protections against scam websites and malware

Google has announced the addition of three new security features to Chrome's Enhanced Protected Mode, the most powerful level within the Safe Browsing system, with the aim of enhancing protection against fraud sites, malware, and cyberattacks.

The first feature includes two levels of warnings for suspicious and dangerous sites, rather than relying on one, helping users distinguish between sites that warrant caution and those that are most likely to pose a direct threat.

The second feature allows AI models to be used to analyze the content of web pages via the cloud, and to detect fraud indicators, such as sites impersonating well-known brands or displaying fake alerts about viruses and browser updates.

Google explained that the content of the pages is processed briefly, and is not recorded, maintained or used to train models.

The third feature focuses on countering "ClickFix" attacks, which rely on showing fake error messages that prompt the user to copy and paste commands into the system's tools, which can lead to the download of malware.

Chrome scans text suspected of being linked to these attacks, and warns the user when dangerous commands are detected.

Google said that users of Enhanced Sandbox have a higher level of security against phishing and fraud, noting that nearly one billion users have enabled this feature during 2025.
