According to the General Tax Authority (GTA), the first shipment of digital tax stamps has arrived in Qatar and the necessary tax and customs procedures pertaining to it have been completed. In cooperation with the General Authority of Customs, these digital tax stamps are set to be implemented on goods in Qatar.

The GTA announced the arrival of these stamps on their social media.

These digital tax stamps are in the form of a physical label or a digital code with encrypted data, which form distinctive marks and are stuck on physical goods. These digital codes are activated electronically and are put on those goods which are subject to excise tax.

Earlier last year, the GTA had initially announced the implementation of digital tax stamps on the import of tobacco products and their derivatives for an excise tax.  

The GTA and the General Authority of Customs are together working actively on monitoring and tracking the movement of these goods within the national market. The authorities also wish to track their movement through the country’s ports and check the legality of their trade.
