Qatar Museums Chairperson HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani was named as the most prominent Arab woman by the Arab Development Council for Women and Business. She was also awarded the Arab leader’s medal for 2023.

The recognition honoured her diplomatic and humanitarian efforts and her social work across various developmental fields.

Qatar’s Ambassador to Lebanon HE Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani received the award on behalf of HE Sheikha Al Mayassa during a reception at the Qatari Embassy in Beirut. He hosted Arab Development Council for Women and Business President Dr Iman Ghossein and her accompanying delegation.

In a post on his official X platform account, Sheikh Saud said he was pleased to receive the award on behalf of Sheikha Al Mayassa from President Ghossein. He added the honour reflects the contributions of Qatar’s women leaders in the fields of development and creativity.

Dr Ghossein expressed her deepest appreciation and gratitude to Sheikha Al Mayassa, who she said was considered a unique model for Arab women, contributing to the advancement of women in the Arab world and globally, leaving an indelible mark on history.

She said Sheikha Al Mayassa was an exemplary Arab woman with pioneering influence in the fields of culture and education, noting that she has taken a leading role in supporting various local and international organisations. She highlighted Sheikha Al Mayassa’s relentless efforts and initiatives to preserve culture and heritage in Qatar and reinforce the Arabs’ historical legacy.

Ghossein said the region’s circumstances, especially the war in Gaza, had caused a delay in the celebration, which was initially planned for late 2023.
