Qatar's Minister of Public Health, Her Excellency Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari has been officially inducted into the National Academy of Medicine. 

The National Academy of Medicine is an independent organization of eminent professionals from diverse fields including health, medicine, and the natural, social and behavioral sciences.

Election to the Academy is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine. 

It recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service.

The National Academy of Medicine confirmed Dr Al Kuwari’s election to the prestigious body for her outstanding contributions to the field of health.

The recognition came in a ceremony held in Washington, DC, where President of the National Academy of Medicine Dr Victor Dzau called Dr Al Kuwari one of the most impressive healthcare executives in the world.

“At a very young age she assumed overall leadership of Hamad Medical Corporation, which effectively serves as the national health system in Qatar, and she led it on an impressive transformation journey," said Dr Dzau.

He added that Dr Al Kuwari's "appointment in 2016 as Qatar’s Minister of Public Health further expanded her scope as she continues to lead Qatar’s health system into becoming one of the most impressive in the region and beyond."

Qatar’s health system has been recognized as the 5th best in the world and first in the Middle East by the 2018 Legatum Prosperity Index, marking significant progress from 13th in 2017 and 27th in 2008.

The country is also among the top 25 in the world for healthcare access and quality, according to the World Health Authority, and is in the top quartile in the Universal Health Coverage Index according to the WHO and the World Bank.

Last year Dr Al Kuwari was among 10 new international members elected to the National Academy of Medicine.

With a current membership of over 2,000, the National Academy of Medicine elects no more than 70 national and 10 international members each year.
