In a move that signifies the strong relations between Qatar and Japan, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani left for Japan Sunday evening to take part in the enthronement ceremony of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Place in Tokyo on Tuesday, October 22.

HH the Amir will also attend the dinner banquet which will be held on the occasion.

The Embassy of Japan in Doha in a statement issued yesterday said this visit comes nine months after His Highness Sheikh Tamim’s visit to Japan in January this year during which several agreements were signed in different fields.

During the last visit, Qatar and Japan agreed to foster cooperation across different domains comprising: an MoU between Qatar’s Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan, an MoU between the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the two countries, and an MoU between Qatar’s Ministry of Transport and Communications and Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

This was in addition to the signing of a joint declaration on the establishment of a strategic dialogue mechanism between the governments of the two nations to boost existing relations.

The embassy's statement added that the HH the Amir's visit "reflects the depth of our relations and gives a clear indication of the determination of both countries’ leadership to develop those relations to advanced stages of long-term strategic partnership."

Japan attaches the highest level of importance to Qatar as the third-largest supplier of LNG to Japan, the embassy underlined.

"On the other hand, Japan is also the number one trade partner of Qatar with a trade volume reaching $16 billion in 2018 with a growth rate of up to 23 percent from the 2017 trade volume which was $13.1 billion

"Japan also appreciates Qatar’s diplomatic efforts which contribute to the stabilization of the region and its pro-active diplomacy which never fails to bring a better effect on not only the Qatari side but also the counterpart countries," the statement added.

The embassy also expressed its belief that "the FIFA 2022 shall be a great success" and said Japan will be glad to share its experience, including security measures, with Qatar as a host of the upcoming Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

"Last but not least, as we celebrate this very special occasion in Japan, we are truly grateful to His Highness for his keenness to share this auspicious celebration with the Japanese people," the statement said.
