His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani attended the graduation ceremony of the 42nd batch of Qatar University students held at its Sports and Events Complex on Monday morning.

At the ceremony, HH the Amir honored 87 outstanding graduates by presenting them with their diplomas.

More than 3,220 students, comprising 2,468 female and 752 male, are graduating this year, from the 42nd batch of QU.

Qatar University President Dr Hassan Rashid Al Derham presented the certificates to 752 graduate students in various disciplines.

Addressing the event, Qatar University President Dr Derham hailed the country’s renaissance in all fields, which would not have been achieved without the accumulation of the efforts exerted by its people and the people standing behind its leaders from the time of the founder until the present time.

Dr Derham said Qatar University has the great honor to contribute to this renaissance through the successive generations of its graduates, who are now contributing to various significant sectors of their homeland with their ideas and efforts.

The QU president pointed out that the university in recent years had achieved an advanced position in the list of the best universities in the world, emerging 276th in the Quacquarelli Symonds rankings for world universities and 408th in the Times rankings.

Al Derham outlined three roles of the university, the first he said is to provide academic programs that adopt high international standards for the undergraduate and postgraduate level, to realize Qatar's development plans.

The second, he said, is the production of knowledge and international research that distinguishes itself through its impact on the ground and touches on the central needs of the Qatari community.

And, the third, is to function as a house of expertise that provides various state institutions with academic advice, contributing to public policy.

Student Abdulaziz Abdullah Al Obaidli from the College of Law delivered a speech on behalf of the graduates, praising the role and position of Qatar University.

He also stressed that QU’s success is based on the effective partnership and the empowerment of young people in line with the vision of a new era.

QU’s students have witnessed the radical transformation of the Qatari politics and this batch of graduates is competent to carry the 42nd mantle of Qatar University, he said, adding that the students were honored to have graduated from an institution like Qatar University.

Obaidli promised HH the Amir, on behalf of the graduates, that they would serve as role models to the younger generation.
