His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani attended the General Assembly meetings of the 134th session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), held in Lausanne, Switzerland, yesterday.
The agenda of the meetings pertained to the advancement of sports and the Olympics on a global level.

The IOC session also underlined key policy issues in areas under its authority.
Italy was announced as the host country of the Olympic Winter Games 2026 after receiving 47 votes from the IOC members, in contrast to Stockholm’s 34.
On the sidelines of the IOC General Assembly meetings, HH the Amir also met with the IOC President Thomas Bach.

HH the Amir congratulated the IOC president on the inauguration of IOC’s new headquarters, The Olympic House. The official opening of the new IOC building coincides with the date of the founding of the committee.
At the meeting, HH the Amir and Bach exchanged ideas on ways to enhance Qatar-IOC cooperation.
President of Qatar Olympic Committee HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani was also in attendance at the meeting.
HH the Amir of Qatar has been a member of the IOC since 2002 and was re-elected to the role last year.
Qatar's Aspetar is also one of the only 11 IOC research centers across the globe and was re-credited with the honor earlier this year.
