His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday participated in the 26th United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) taking place in Glasgow, Scotland.

During his participation at the historic summit, which calls for urgent joint action to tackle climate change, HH the Amir met with several heads of states and delegations in attendance.

HH the Amir met with several leaders including the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah Al Sisi; President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani; President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and President of the African Union Felix Tshisekedi; President of the Republic of Seychelles Wavel Ramkalawan; President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa; and President of the Republic of Armenia Armen Sarkissian.

HH the Amir also met with: Prime Minister of the Republic of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah; Prime Minister of the Republic of Lebanon Najib Mikati; Prime Minister of the National Unity Government of the State of Libya Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh; Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr Angela Merkel; Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau; Prime Minister of the Italian Republic Mario Draghi; Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania Edi Rama; and a number of heads of delegations who joined the summit.

The meetings delved into various areas of collaboration and ways of further boosting them. They also served as an opportunity to exchange viewpoints on the most recent developments in the region as well as the priority topics included in the summit's agenda.

COP26 convenes leaders, delegates from over 200 countries that are being asked for their plans to cut emissions, and it could lead to major changes to our everyday lives, according to BBC.

The conference will run until November 12, 2021, during which it will address some critical issues and solutions to inspire climate action globally.
