HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will begin an official visit of the United Kingdom today.
He is visiting the country at the invitation of UK’s Prime Minister Theresa May and the two are expected to hold talks on Tuesday, reported Gulf Times.
In addition to the meeting with May, HH The Emir is also expected to speak to a number of British ministers as well as senior officials in the government.
The talks will pertain to ways of strengthening friendly relations and cooperation between the two nations in various fields. Several issues of regional and international importance will also be discussed, according to The Peninsula.
Qatari businesses and individuals have a lot of stakes in the UK, ranging from businesses to real estate.
The two countries have in recent times been focusing more on ways of implementing the Qatar National Vision 2030 and supporting Qatar to host a successful World Cup in 2022.
At the start of the year, Qatar had signed a mega $8bn deal with the UK to purchase 24 Typhoon fighter jets. The country is set to receive them in time for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. It will be used to enhance the tournament’s security from the skies.
