Qatar Central Bank (QCB) has collaborated with Samsung Gulf Electronics to integrate Himyan, Qatar’s national payment card system, with Samsung Wallet, giving eligible cardholders another way to make secure contactless payments without carrying a physical card.
The integration allows eligible Himyan debit and prepaid cards to be added to Samsung Wallet on compatible Galaxy devices, enabling users to make payments at contactless point-of-sale terminals across Qatar.
The initiative forms part of Qatar’s continuing push towards a more advanced digital payments ecosystem, in line with the Third Financial Sector Strategy and the Third National Development Strategy 2024–2030.
What is Himyan?
Himyan was developed as Qatar’s national payment card brand, providing a locally managed payment option for debit and prepaid card transactions.
The system supports payments across Qatar’s retail payment infrastructure and has increasingly been integrated with digital payment platforms.
By adding Samsung Wallet support, eligible Himyan users now have another option for making digital payments directly from their Galaxy devices without needing to present their physical card.
How Himyan works with Samsung Wallet
Once an eligible Himyan card has been added to Samsung Wallet, users can select the card from their wallet and make a contactless payment by holding their compatible Galaxy device near a supported payment terminal.
The integration is designed to make everyday transactions faster and more convenient while maintaining the security protections associated with both Himyan and Samsung Wallet.
Samsung Wallet uses security measures including Samsung Knox, device authentication and biometric verification to protect payment information and transactions.
How to add your Himyan card to Samsung Wallet
Eligible cardholders can set up their Himyan card in a few steps:
- Open the Samsung Wallet app on a compatible Galaxy device.
- Select the option to add a new payment card.
- Add the eligible Himyan debit or prepaid card.
- Follow the instructions displayed in the app.
- Complete the required verification process with the card-issuing bank.
Once verification is completed, the card can be used through Samsung Wallet for supported contactless transactions.
Card availability may depend on the issuing bank and the user's device compatibility.
Expanding digital payments in Qatar
The Samsung Wallet integration expands the digital payment options available to Himyan cardholders and strengthens the card’s connection with Qatar’s local banking ecosystem.
QCB’s retail payment infrastructure already supports tokenised transactions through global digital wallets, while Himyan cards can also be processed through Qatar’s national payment systems.
The latest integration builds on Qatar’s broader efforts to encourage secure, efficient and locally managed digital transactions while reducing reliance on physical payment cards.
For Samsung Galaxy users with eligible Himyan cards, the development means everyday purchases can now be completed with a tap of a compatible device.
QCB confirms support for tokenised Himyan payments through global digital wallets, while QNB’s Himyan page specifically confirms Samsung Wallet support and describes Samsung Knox and device authentication protections.
Best headline for the graphic: “Himyan cards can now be added to Samsung Wallet in Qatar.” It gives users the development and the benefit immediately, without sounding like a corporate announcement.
