Qatar has been hit by a sandstorm and will be quite dusty and windy till the weekend. Therefore, we thought this post would be timely for some of you, especially those having respiratory issues.

Here are some quick tips on how to get through this weather:

Cover mouth and nose - wear a mask.

If you have a mask that is designed to filter out small particulates, put it on immediately. If you don't have a mask, you can get one in any of the pharmacies.

You may also use a piece of moist cloth to put around your nose and mouth. If you have some petroleum jelly, you may also apply it inside your nose to prevent drying of your mucous membranes.

Protect your eyes - wear sunglasses or goggles.

If you are outdoors, consider using goggles or at least your sunglasses to protect sand, dirt or any hazardous materials from entering your eyes. Covering your face with your arms is also eefective in extreme conditions.

Close all doors and windows

If you are inside your home, make sure all doors and windows are closed.

Drive slow

A lot of accidents usually occur during sandstorms due to the wind and lower visibility. Ideally, it is recommended that you pull over and stop if the weather conditions are extreme. If you have to drive no matter what, drive at 80 kmph or slower.

Stay hydrated

It goes without saying that keeping yourself hydrated is important at all times if you're in Qatar and even more so during a sandstorm. Keep a water bottle with you if you do step out.

We hope these tips were helpful. Try to stay indoors during a sandstorm, which is the ultimate precaution. But if you have to step outside, follow some of the tips mentioned above.
