The illegal siege of Qatar, which began on June 5, is continuing to have grave consequences on regional and international peace.
The unilateral measures against Qatar have added to the region’s instability and reflects negatively on the international campaign against terrorism, said Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) HE Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani.
She was speaking during the UN Security Council open debate on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, reported Gulf Times.
She said that instead of responding to the efforts made by brotherly nations to find a solution to the crisis, the recent period witnessed an escalation represented by air violations in a series of provocations against Qatar, according to The Peninsula.
She added that while Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue to settle disputes, it also firmly rejected any violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Qatar also reiterated its commitment to mediation efforts by the Kuwaiti Emir HH Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah. It also extended appreciation to the countries that supported this mediation in order to resolve the crisis, reported Qatar Tribune.
Sheikha Alia added that Qatar will continue its active and positive contribution in supporting efforts aimed at achieving peace in the Middle East.
The Middle East placed grave and complex threats to international peace and security, including decades-old threats and emerging ones.
All these challenges need to intensify cooperation between regional nations and the international community in general to resolve crises, by eradicating their causes and addressing their obstacles in a sustainable manner.
